LOVE IN 100 GESTURES

LOVE IN 100 GESTURES

Love in 100 gestures translates into the language of contemporary dance 100 gestures present in iconic paintings ranging from ancient Greece to expressionism.

This intimate dance concert, featuring a female dancer, a soprano and a pianist, evokes poetic landscapes of the matters of the heart and traverses the line between movement and voice, dance and opera.

100 hugs, leans and caresses inspired by romantic paintings across time thrust, pull and stomp in response to lyrical arias about love. These love gestures, some more concrete, others more abstract, performed with precise rhythm and rigorous intention, make us question love as we know it.

Love in 100 gestures is an intimate dance on a paradoxical quest – How to make a gesture of love by oneself? Where and who is the other?

One female dancer on stage is both the subject and the object of giving and receiving love. The new self efficient ideal of self love, self preservation and self growth – DIY- do it yourself. All by yourself. Where does love fall into the equation?

Where the fight for (female) emancipation and independence escalates to new horizons, at the forefront of the quest the woman stands alone. Does she choose to be alone? Is her being alone an act of independence, desperation or abandonment?

In a methodical study of 100 gestures of love across the history of art, the solo dancer accompanied by a soprano and a pianist investigates: Are loving gestures familiar or abstract? Are they universal? What do they communicate?

Strength and vulnerability physically collide in choreographic and musical landscapes, encompassing the moving body, no longer independent, but in search of connection and understanding.
